whatever the outcome, it can't be let him play corner at $13M or whatever his rate is...he has not proven to be that guy anymore. If he takes a paycut to the minimum guaranteed of $6M, or close to it, then you consider it. But not at the contractual rate. And if a paycut becomes an attitude issue and a cancer, then you'd have to cut him.

He has not played well

Totally misplayed. Should have put up with him when was younger or competed w/Pats when Bucs dumped him.
At this point, dump him unless he can play S on a reasonable contract.

might be able to play safety in touch football, his ball skills are under average & his tackling is atrocious

If he is willing to cut his pay to that $6M guaranteed element, maybe with some incentives, the Jets might as well keep him for a camp and preseason tryout at FS.

We need to pay him that money whether he is on the team or not, so it makes sense to try to get some value for it. If he can play FS, then you don't need to pay additional money above that $6M to sign someone else to play Safety.

It goes without saying that if he's not willing to take the pay-cut, then the Jets need to move on.

Revis needs to be rrleased, plain and simple. He is not and NFL S by any means
He was horrible playing off coverage which is what he has to do as a S. Also people who are comparing him to Woodson are on crack. Woodson is a hitter and Revis can barely tackle WR's. Do you really want to see him tackling guys like Kelce and Graham?

yeah I agree...I don't think he's a Safety either

one other quick thing...I thought I read that there is offset language in his deal, so if we cut him, we're on the hook for the $6M but if he signs somewhere else then that amount gets offset against what we'd have to pay.

I think Mac kind of got the best deal he could at the time...he knew it was essentially a two year deal with the ability to cut bait in year 3. Which it looks like we very well may. He banked on getting 2 good years out of Revis...in hindsight we got one decent year and one horrible year, but at the time it wasn't a bad bet.
